In this opening presentation, a senior government digital leader will provide attendees with insights into how both familiar government channels and new offerings – including apps and chatbots – will continue to evolve to better support and inform citizens.

While the vast, and growing, band of digital experts in the civil service are leading government’s transformation, it is also crucial that departments choose the right partners – particularly as adoption of automation and AI increases – and that all parties cooperate effectively to achieve the right outcomes.

This session will feature quickfire case studies that demonstrate how a wide range of frontline services are delivering improvements for citizens and public bodies, via new ideas and innovation.

This closing session will bring together all the day’s speakers to take questions from the chair and delegates.

The second day of our event will begin by turning its attention to local government, and asking how new tools can enable authorities to support and regenerate regions, towns, and even neighbourhoods.

Everyone in government – and across the country – knows all about the potential and power of artificial intelligence. But how can the public sector identify the right use cases and ensure best practice? And, crucially, what other new tools can work in harmony with AI and existing systems to deliver reform?

While next-generation computing infrastructure and sophisticated automation tools may get more attention, the most powerful system at the public sector’s disposal is its data. The information possessed by local and central government and the NHS has the potential to support better policymaking, more efficient operations, and improved services. This panel discussion will explore how can public bodies can make sure they have the right platforms, processes – and people – in order to do so.

Ministers have made no secret of its enthusiasm for AI. But, in government and beyond, there are still plenty who have concerns about the ethical, legal, and operational implications. This session will use a polling system to take the temperature among attendees, before inviting expert stakeholders to put forward their case and take questions – and then revisiting the issue to see if the dial has moved for our audience.

As the UK government embarks on an ambitious agenda hoped to provide the general public with the skills needed to thrive in the age of AI, this opening presentation will consider how tech can enable inclusion and engagement across the breadth of the citizenry.

For public sector organisations, building an effective tech team means not just ensuring they have the skills needed for today – but also those for tomorrow. This session will examine how best to keep on top of the ever-changing demands of the digital world.

For transformed services to deliver improvements that can be felt by citizens, frontline experts in health and social care, education, environmental services and beyond need to embrace technology – and develop the know-how needed to use it.

In this session, quickfire presentations will offer insights into differing challenges. Speakers will examine the skills that digital advocates need to ensure are embedded in policymaking, service delivery – and in society.
